How to prepare for your portrait session

How to prepare for your portrait session

A simple checklist — outfits, hair, mindset and the little details — so you walk into the studio calm and walk out with images you love.

The best portraits happen when you stop thinking about the camera. Preparation is what gets you there: when the practical things are handled, you can relax and let your personality do the work.

Choose outfits that feel like you

Bring options — at least two or three looks that fit well and make you feel confident. Solid colours and clean textures photograph beautifully; very busy patterns and tiny stripes can distract. Steam or iron everything the night before.

If you're booking an additional outfit, plan the order: start with the look you're most comfortable in so you warm up before the bolder ones.

Hair, skin and grooming

Get haircuts and fresh braids a few days ahead, not the morning of. Moisturise, drink water, and sleep well — it genuinely shows. Bring a small kit for touch-ups: lip balm, powder, comb, and any accessories you plan to wear.

Share your references

Inspiration links help us understand the mood you want — soft and editorial, bold and bright, minimal and clean. You don't need to copy a pose; just tell us what you like about it and we'll translate that into your own style.

On the day

Arrive a little early, eat something light, and bring water. Your session starts at the booked time, so arriving ready means every minute goes into making images. Trust the process — we'll guide your posing and expression throughout.
