From a Photography Booking to a Global Connection: My Experience Covering GSEF 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya

By Uforo Abia | Uforo Abia Photography

Sometimes, the most beautiful opportunities in life begin with a simple message, an introduction, or a connection you never imagined would take you somewhere new.

For me, one of those moments came when I was contacted to photograph and document the Global Somali Entrepreneurship Forum (GSEF 2026) in Nairobi, Kenya.

What initially began as a corporate photography booking soon became much more than an assignment. It became an opportunity to tell meaningful stories, connect with remarkable people, experience a different environment, and create lasting memories for an event that brought together entrepreneurs, business leaders, professionals, and individuals with a shared vision for growth and opportunity.

How It All Began

Every photography assignment has a story behind it, and GSEF 2026 was no exception.

When I received the opportunity to cover the event in Nairobi, I understood that this was more than just showing up with my camera and taking pictures. It was an opportunity to represent my craft, deliver excellence, and capture the atmosphere, energy, and significance of an important corporate gathering.

As a photographer, I have always believed that every event deserves to be documented with intention. Beyond the stage, the speakers, and the formal proceedings, there are countless moments that tell the real story of an occasion: the conversations, the handshakes, the expressions, the laughter, the introductions, and the connections that happen when people come together.

That was the responsibility I carried with me to Nairobi.

I wanted every photograph to communicate something meaningful. I wanted the organisers, participants, and guests to look back at the event and relive not just what happened, but how it felt to be part of it.

Documenting GSEF 2026: More Than Just Taking Pictures

Corporate event photography requires a different kind of awareness. You have to anticipate moments, understand the flow of an event, pay attention to details, and remain ready to capture important interactions as they happen.

At GSEF 2026, my goal was to create a visual record that reflected the professionalism, energy, and significance of the gathering.

From the formal moments to the spontaneous interactions, every frame presented an opportunity to preserve something valuable. Whether it was documenting key moments on stage, capturing participants engaging with one another, or photographing the atmosphere that brought the event to life, I approached the assignment with the understanding that these images would become part of the event’s lasting story.

For me, photography is not simply about producing beautiful pictures. It is about preserving moments that might otherwise exist only in people’s memories.

And when it comes to corporate events, those photographs can become powerful tools for storytelling, brand communication, public relations, marketing, and future promotion.

That is the kind of value I strive to bring to every assignment.

The Power of Networking and Human Connection

One of the most rewarding aspects of covering GSEF 2026 was the opportunity to connect with people.

There is something special about being in a room filled with individuals from different backgrounds, industries, and professional experiences. Every conversation offers the possibility of learning something new, discovering a shared interest, or building a relationship that could grow into something meaningful.

Throughout the experience, I was reminded that photography can open doors beyond the camera.

It creates opportunities to meet people, exchange ideas, build trust, and establish professional relationships. Sometimes, the person you meet at an event becomes a collaborator. Sometimes, a simple conversation introduces you to a new opportunity. And sometimes, the relationships you build become just as valuable as the work you were initially hired to do.

GSEF 2026 gave me another opportunity to appreciate the importance of showing up professionally, connecting genuinely with people, and allowing the quality of my work to speak for itself.

As a creative entrepreneur, I understand that growth is not only about improving your craft. It is also about building relationships, expanding your perspective, and being prepared to deliver value wherever your work takes you.

Creating Beautiful Memories That Speak for Themselves

At the heart of everything I do is a simple philosophy: every moment worth remembering deserves to be captured beautifully.

My responsibility at GSEF 2026 was to ensure that the people, experiences, and important moments that defined the event were documented in a way that would remain valuable long after the gathering ended.

I wanted the images to do more than show who attended. I wanted them to tell the story of the event, communicate its atmosphere, and give the organisers and participants something meaningful to return to.

For me, the true value of event photography becomes evident after the event is over. When the venue is empty, the conversations have ended, and everyone has returned to their respective destinations, the photographs remain.

They become a record of achievement, collaboration, celebration, and progress. They help organisations communicate their impact and allow participants to revisit moments they shared with others.

Knowing that I had the opportunity to contribute to the story of GSEF 2026 was something I genuinely appreciated.

The Reviews, the Feedback, and the Reward of Doing Good Work

One of the most fulfilling parts of this experience was the feedback I received after delivering the photographs.

The reviews were amazing, and that meant a great deal to me.

As a photographer, there is a special kind of satisfaction that comes from knowing that your work has met expectations, communicated the right story, and left the people who trusted you feeling happy with the result.

Every client places a level of trust in the person they hire. They trust you to understand their vision, represent their event professionally, and deliver images that reflect the importance of the occasion.

Receiving such positive feedback reminded me why I continue to invest in my craft and push myself to become better.

It was more than a compliment. It was an affirmation of the importance of preparation, attention to detail, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to delivering quality.

To the people who trusted me with the opportunity to document GSEF 2026, thank you for the confidence you placed in my work. I do not take opportunities like this for granted.

Taking the Uforo Abia Photography Experience Beyond Borders

Covering GSEF 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya, was another meaningful chapter in my journey as a photographer.

It reminded me that creativity has the power to connect people across borders and that good work can introduce you to rooms, experiences, and relationships you may never have imagined.

Every assignment teaches me something. Every client gives me an opportunity to grow. Every event challenges me to see differently, work intentionally, and deliver something that matters.

I remain grateful for every opportunity to use photography to tell stories, preserve memories, and help individuals and organisations communicate their experiences through powerful imagery.

At Uforo Abia Photography, we believe that every event has a story worth telling. Our goal is to capture that story with creativity, professionalism, and an eye for the moments that matter most.

GSEF 2026 was not just another event on my calendar. It was a reminder of how far a passion for photography can take you, the people it can introduce you to, and the beautiful memories it allows you to leave behind.

And for that, I am grateful.
